Charles Stewart Phipps was born on 12 December 1871. He was the son of Major Charles Edmund Phipps and Susan Stewart Geddes. He married Edith Anne Webber Douglas, daughter of Captain Francis Douglas, in 1902. He died on 15 August 1917 at age 45, killed in action.
