     Sir Alexander Anstruther was born on 10 September 1769.1 He was the son of Sir Robert Anstruther of Balcaskie, 3rd Bt. and Lady Janet Erskine.1 He married Sarah Prendergast, daughter of Thomas Prendergast, on 14 March 1803.1 He died on 16 July 1819 at age 49 at Mauritius.1,2
     Sir Alexander Anstruther held the office of Advocate-General of Madras in 1803.1,2 He held the office of Recorder of Bombay in March 1812.1,2 He lived at Thirdpart, Fife, Scotland.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.2

     Sarah Prendergast was the daughter of Thomas Prendergast.1 She married, firstly, Captain W. Selby before 1803.1 She married, secondly, Sir Alexander Anstruther, son of Sir Robert Anstruther of Balcaskie, 3rd Bt. and Lady Janet Erskine, on 14 March 1803.1 She died on 15 December 1865.1
     From before 1803, her married name became Selby.1 From 14 March 1803, her married name became Anstruther.1
