George Arbuthnot 2
     George Clerk Arbuthnot was born on 7 October 1803.1 He was the son of Sir William Arbuthnot, 1st Bt. and Anne Alves.1 He married, firstly, Agnes Rait, daughter of John Rait and Elizabeth Guthrie, on 7 November 1837.1 He married, secondly, Caroline Ramsay Hay, daughter of James Hay and Lady Mary Ramsay, on 10 January 1845 at Linden College, Lasswade, Midlothian, Scotland.1,2,3 He died on 21 February 1876 at age 72.1 He was buried at Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.2
     He was commander of the Hythe, an East India ship of season from 1828 to 1829.2 He lived at Mavisbank, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1

     Agnes Rait was born on 20 November 1805.2 She was the daughter of John Rait and Elizabeth Guthrie.1,3 She was baptised on 2 December 1805 at Inverkeillor, Angus, Scotland.2 She married George Clerk Arbuthnot, son of Sir William Arbuthnot, 1st Bt. and Anne Alves, on 7 November 1837.1 She died on 12 March 1842 at age 36.1 She was buried at Ockley, Surrey, EnglandG.3
     From 7 November 1837, her married name became Arbuthnot.1

     John Rait was the son of William Rait and Agnes Lyon.2 He married Elizabeth Guthrie, daughter of James Guthrie, 2nd of Craigie and Amelia Murray, on 26 March 1799.3 He died in 1825.3

     Emily Arbuthnot was born on 14 June 1840.1 She was the daughter of George Clerk Arbuthnot and Agnes Rait.1 She married John Burns, 1st Baron Inverclyde of Castle Wemyss, son of Sir George Burns, 1st Bt. and Jane Cleland, on 27 November 1860 at Mavisbank House, Lasswade, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1,2 She died on 14 February 1901 at age 60.1
     From 27 November 1860, her married name became Burns.1 After her marriage, Emily Arbuthnot was styled as Baroness Inverclyde of Castle Wemyss on 28 July 1897.

     John Burns, 1st Baron Inverclyde of Castle Wemyss was born on 24 June 1829.2 He was the son of Sir George Burns, 1st Bt. and Jane Cleland.2 He married Emily Arbuthnot, daughter of George Clerk Arbuthnot and Agnes Rait, on 27 November 1860 at Mavisbank House, Lasswade, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1,3 He died on 12 February 1901 at age 71.1
     He was created 1st Baron Inverclyde of Castle Wemyss, co. Renfrew [U.K.] on 28 July 1897.2 He was chairman of Cunard Steamship Company.3
