     Sir William Valentine Ball was born on 10 February 1874.1 He was the son of Sir Robert Stawell Ball and Frances Elizabeth Steele.1 He married Kathleen Mary Butt, daughter of George Butt, on 9 October 1903.1 He died on 25 November 1960 at age 86, without issue.1
     He was educated at Royal Academy, Armagh, County Armagh, Ireland.1 He was educated at Tonbridge School, Tonbridge, Kent, England.1 He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland.1 He graduated from King's College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1895 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).1 He was admitted to Lincoln's Inn in 1897 entitled to practice as a Barrister-at-Law.1 He graduated from King's College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1898 with a Master of Arts (M.A.).1 He fought in the First World War, in the Anti-Aircraft Corps.1 He was invested as a Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1918.1 He held the office of Examiner of the Court in 1919.1 He held the office of Master of the Supreme Court between 1921 and 1944.1 He held the office of Senior Master and Remembrancer of the King's Court between 1944 and 1947.1 He held the office of a Bencher of Lincoln's Inn in 1945.1 He was invested as a Knight in 1946.1 He was admitted to Master of the Clockmakers' Company in 1953.1
