     George Borthwick was the son of William Borthwick, 7th of Crookston and Elizabeth Hoppringle of Hoppringle.1 He died in 1702, without male issue.1
     George Borthwick lived at Trottingshaw, Scotland.1

     John Borthwick, 13th of Crookston was born on 7 April 1788.1,2 He was the son of John Borthwick, 12th of Crookston and Grizel Adinston.1 He married, firstly, Anne Dundas, daughter of Rt. Hon. Robert Dundas of Arniston, on 16 March 1819.1 He married, secondly, Elizabeth Sutherland Dallas, daughter of Alexander Dallas, on 28 April 1838.3 He died on 18 September 1845 at age 57.2
     John Borthwick, 13th of Crookston held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.).1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.).1
