     He succeeded as the 3rd Baronet Stockdale, of Hoddington, co. Southampton [U.K., 1960] on 8 October 2021.

     Spencer Cowper was born in 1669.1 He was the son of Sir William Cowper, 2nd Bt. and Sarah Holled.2,1 He married, firstly, Pennington Goodeve, daughter of John Goodeve.1 He married, secondly, Theodora (?)1 He died on 10 December 1728.1
     He was admitted to Middle Temple in 1687.1 He was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, EnglandG.1 He was a practising Barrister-at-Law in 1693.1 In July 1699 he was tried at the Hertford Assizes for the murder of Sarah Stout, a Quaker, and was acquitted.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Beeralston between 1705 and 1710.1 He was admitted to Lincoln's Inn in 1713.1 He was Attorney-General to the Prince of Wales between 1714 and 1717.1 He was appointed King's Counsel (K.C.) in 1715.1 He held the office of Bencher of Lincoln's Inn in 1715.1 He held the office of Treasurer of Lincoln's Inn in 1715.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Truro between 1715 and 1727.1 He held the office of Chief Justice of Chester in 1717.1 He held the office of Bencher of the Middle Temple in 1718.1 He held the office of Justice of the Court of Common Pleas in 1724.1 He held the office of Serjeant-at-Law in 1727.1

     Sir William Cowper, 2nd Bt. is the son of John Cowper and Joyce Hukeley.2 He married Sarah Holled, daughter of Samuel Holled and Anne (?), circa 8 April 1663.3
     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Hertford.3 He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Cowper, of Ratlin Court, co. Kent [E., 1642] on 10 December 1664.3

     William Cowper, 1st Earl Cowper was born circa 1665.1 He was the son of Sir William Cowper, 2nd Bt. and Sarah Holled.1 He married, firstly, Judith Booth, daughter of Sir Robert Booth.3 He married, secondly, Mary Clavering, daughter of John Clavering, in September 1706. He died on 10 October 1723 at Colne Green, EnglandG.1
     He succeeded as the 3rd Baronet Cowper, of Ratlin Court, co. Kent [E., 1642].4 He held the office of Lord Keeper of the Great Seal in 1705.3 He was a Commissioner to treat for teh Union between England and Scotland.3 He was created 1st Baron Cowper, of Wingham, co. Kent [England] on 14 December 1706.3 He held the office of Lord High Chancellor on 4 May 1707.3 He held the office of Lord High Steward in 1716, for the trials of the Jacobites.3 He was created 1st Earl Cowper [Great Britain] on 20 March 1717/18, with a special remainder to his brother, Spencer.3 He was created 1st Viscount Fordwich, co. Kent [Great Britain] on 20 March 1717/18, with a special remainder to his brother, Spencer.3 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire.3
