     Lt.-Col. John Matthew Blakiston-Houston was born on 31 August 1898.1 He was the son of Richard Blakiston-Houston and Lilian Agnes Kidston.1 He married Lettice Arden Stobart, daughter of Henry Gervas Stobart and Bessie Brydges, on 2 July 1931.1 He died in 1984.1
     Lt.-Col. John Matthew Blakiston-Houston was educated at Eton College, Eton, Berkshire, England.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Tank Corps.1 He fought in the First World War.1 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1924 in the service of the 11th Hussars.1 He was Aide-de-Camp to the Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief of Australia between 1929 and 1930.1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He was commander of the Southern Rhodesia Armoured Car Regiment.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of County Down in 1944.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the 11th Hussars.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of County Down in 1946.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of County Tyrone in 1954.1
