     Valerie Champion de Crespigny was born circa 1883.1 She was the daughter of Sir Claude Champion de Crespigny, 4th Bt..1 She married Major Sir John Smiley, 2nd Bt., son of Sir Hugh Houston Smiley, 1st Bt. and Elizabeth Anne Kerr, on 26 November 1903.1 She died on 1 September 1978.1
     From 26 November 1903, her married name became Smiley.1
