     Sir Alexander Ludovic Duff was born on 20 February 1862.1 He was the son of Lt.-Col. James Duff of Knockleith and Jane Bracken Dunlop.1 He married, firstly, Janet Douglas Duff, daughter of Garden William Duff, 9th of Hatton and Douglas Isabella Maria Urquhart, on 3 September 1886.1 He married, secondly, Marjorie Hill-Whitson, daughter of Charles Hill-Whitson, on 10 January 1924.1 He died on 22 November 1933 at age 71.1
     He was educated at H.M.S. Britannia, EnglandG.2 He held the office of Aide-de-Camp to HM King George V between 1911 and 1913.2 He was awarded the Order of St. Stanislaus of Russia 2nd Class with swords.2 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal (D.S.M.)
