Maj.-Gen. Thomas Buchan was the son of James Buchan, 8th of Auchmacoy and Margaret Seton.1 He married Elizabeth Urquhart, daughter of Patrick Urquhart, 18th of Meldrum and Lady Margaret Ogilvy.1 He died in 1721.1
In 1689 he was appointed by King James VII (Jacobite) as commander of all Jacobite forces in Scotland.1 He fought in the Battle of the Haughs of Cromdale in 1690, where he was defeated by the Williamites.1
