Sir John Smith-Burges, 1st and last Bt. was born circa 1734.1 He was the son of John Smith and Mary Ransom.1 He married Margaret Burges, daughter of Ynyr Burges and Margaret Brown, on 14 May 1771.1,2 He died on 24 April 1803, without issue.3 He was buried at East Ham, Essex, England.3
Sir John Smith-Burges, 1st and last Bt. was baptised with the name of John Smith.1 He was a director of the East India Company.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the 3rd Regiment, East India Volunteers.1 On 10 June 1790 his name was legally changed to John Smith-Burges by Royal Licence.1 He was created 1st Baronet Smith-Burges, of Eastham, co. Essex [Great Britain] on 4 May 1793.1 He lived at Thorpe Hall, Essex, England.1 He lived at Eastham, Essex, England.1 He lived at Havering-atte-Bower, Essex, England.1
On his death, his baronetcy became extinct.3
