     Major John Bernard Arbuthnot was born on 17 May 1875 at London, England.1,2 He was the son of Colonel George Arbuthnot and Caroline Emma Nepean Aitchison.1 He married Olive Blake, daughter of Sir Henry Arthur Blake, on 8 June 1903.1 He died on 16 September 1950 at age 75.1
     Major John Bernard Arbuthnot gained the rank of Major in the service of the Scots Guards.1 He fought in the Boer War between 1900 and 1901.1 He was invested as a Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) in 1902.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was a merchant banker.1 He was Aide-de-Camp to the Governor of Hong Kong.2 He was author of the 'Beachcomber' column of in the Daily Express.1
