     Gerald Valerian Wellesley was born on 31 July 1885.1 He was the son of Gerald Edward Wellesley and Ada Hamilton Martin.1 He married Elizabeth Thornton Ball, daughter of Otho Ball, on 15 October 1931.1 He died on 3 April 1961 at age 75.1
     Gerald Valerian Wellesley was educated at Eton College, Eton, Berkshire, England.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was wounded and mentioned in despatches.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Oxfordshire Yeomanry (Territorial Army).1 He was decorated with the award of Medaille de Sauvetage of France.1 He was decorated with the award of Military Cross (M.C.).1

     Elizabeth Thornton Ball was the daughter of Otho Ball.1 She married, firstly, Quintin Holland Gilbey, son of Colonel Alfred Gilbey and Beatrice Elizabeth Holland, in 1927.2 She and Quintin Holland Gilbey were divorced in 1930.2 She married, secondly, Gerald Valerian Wellesley, son of Gerald Edward Wellesley and Ada Hamilton Martin, on 15 October 1931.1 She married, thirdly, Basil Harvey on 22 October 1965.1 She died in 1981.1
     From 1927, her married name became Gilbey. From 15 October 1931, her married name became Wellesley.1 From 22 October 1965, her married name became Harvey.1
