     Sir Charles Cornwallis, 2nd Baron Cornwallis of Eye was baptised on 19 April 1632.3 He was the son of Sir Frederick Cornwallis, 1st Baron Cornwallis of Eye and Elizabeth Ashburnham.2 He married Margaret Playsted, daughter of Sir Thomas Playsted.1 He died on 13 April 1673 at age 40.1
     Sir Charles Cornwallis, 2nd Baron Cornwallis of Eye was Gentleman of the Privy Chamber in 1660.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Eye between 1660 and 1662.1 He was invested as a Knight, Order of the Bath (K.B.) in 1661.1 He succeeded to the title of 2nd Baron Cornwallis of Eye, Suffolk [E., 1661] in January 1661/62.3 He succeeded to the title of 2nd Baronet Cornwallis [E., 1627] in January 1661/62.3 He had two two elder sons, who both died young.3

     Margaret Playsted is the daughter of Sir Thomas Playsted.2 She married Sir Charles Cornwallis, 2nd Baron Cornwallis of Eye, son of Sir Frederick Cornwallis, 1st Baron Cornwallis of Eye and Elizabeth Ashburnham.1
     Her married name became Cornwallis. As a result of her marriage, Margaret Playsted was styled as Baroness Cornwallis of Eye in January 1661/62.

     Lady Charlotte Butler is the daughter of Richard Butler, 1st Earl of Arran.2 She married Sir Charles Cornwallis, 4th Baron Cornwallis of Eye, son of Sir Charles Cornwallis, 3rd Baron Cornwallis of Eye and Elizabeth Fox, on 6 June 1699.1
     As a result of her marriage, Lady Charlotte Butler was styled as Baroness Cornwallis of Eye on 6 June 1699. From 6 June 1699, her married name became Cornwallis.
