Sir William Edward Jardine of Applegirth, 11th Bt. was born on 15 April 1917.1 He is the son of Sir Alexander Jardine of Applegirth, 10th Bt. and Winifred Mary Hamilton Young.2 He married Ann Graham Maitland, daughter of Lt.-Col. Claud Archibald Scott Maitland, on 2 June 1944.1 He died on 19 April 1986 at age 69.1
Sir William Edward Jardine of Applegirth, 11th Bt. gained the rank of Major in the service of the King's Own Scottish Borderers.1 He fought in the Second World War, where he was wounded.1 He succeeded to the title of 11th Baronet Jardine, of Applegirth [N.S., 1672] on 27 March 1942.1 He was decorated with the award of Territorial Decoration (T.D.).1 He was admitted to Royal Company of Archers in 1953.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Dumfriesshire in 1963.1 He was Lieutenant-Colonel of the 4th/5th King's Own Scottish Borderers (Territorial Army) between 1963 and 1967.1 He was invested as a Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1966.1 He gained the rank of Brevet-Colonel in 1967.1
