     Geoffrey Holland Gilbey was born on 12 May 1889.1 He was the son of Colonel Alfred Gilbey and Beatrice Elizabeth Holland.2 He married Violet Mary Reid, daughter of Dr. Spence D. Reid and Julia Hamilton MacGowan, on 9 December 1919.1 He died on 8 October 1969 at age 80.1
     Geoffrey Holland Gilbey was educated at Eton College, Eton, Berkshire, England.3 He was educated at Christ Church College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1 He fought in the First World War.3 He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Rifle Brigade.1 He was decorated with the award of Military Cross (M.C.) in 1915.1
