Dr. Marie Carmichael Stopes was born on 15 October 1880.1 She was the daughter of Henry Stopes and Charlotte Carmichael.1 She married, firstly, Reginald Ruggles Gates in 1911.1 She married, secondly, Humphrey Verdon-Roe, son of unknown Verdon-Roe, in 1918.2 She died on 2 October 1958 at age 77 at Dorking, Surrey, England, from cancer.1
