Patrick Cheyne, 8th of Essilmont married Helen Bryson.2 He married Christian Hepburn of Smeaton, daughter of Adam Hepburn of Smeaton Hepburn and Isabella Preston.2 He died in 1616.

He gained the rank of officer in the British Army.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Lord Oliphant [S., 1633] circa May 1706.1 He succeeded as the 8th Lord Oliphant [S., 1464] circa May 1706.1 On 1 May 1709 He disponed his lands and honours in favour of James Oliphant, 5th of Gask, which was not valid to convey the peerage, but did convey the lands and chiefship unmarried.1
