John Forbes-Sempill, 18th Lord Sempill was born on 21 August 1863.1 He was the son of Sir William Forbes-Sempill, 17th Lord Sempill and Frances Emily Abercromby.2 He married Gwendolen Emily Mary Prodgers, daughter of Herbert Prodgers, on 22 June 1892.1 He died on 28 February 1934 at age 70.1
He was 3rd Battalion Gordon , Lieutenant Argyll and Sutherland Hldrs 1885, tfd Cameron Hldrs 1886, served Sudan 1885–86, tfd Royal Army Service Corps 1889, Captain 1891, Hazara Expdn 1889, tfd Black Watch 1894 (ret as Captain 1904), Lovat Scouts (wounded Hldrs 1883.3 He was educated Eton.3 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Aberdeenshire.1 He succeeded to the title of 9th Baronet Forbes, of Craigievar [N.S., 1630] on 21 July 1905.1 He succeeded to the title of 18th Lord Sempill on 21 July 1905.
