Commander Sir Archibald Richard James Southby, 1st Bt. was born on 8 July 1886.1 He was the son of Richard Southby and Hon. Isabella Hewitt Lifford.2 He married Phyllis Mary Garton, daughter of Charles Henry Garton, on 20 July 1909.1 He and Phyllis Mary Garton were divorced in 1962. He married, secondly, Noreen Vera Simm, daughter of Bernard Compton Simm, on 28 March 1962. He was Member of Parliament (M.P.) –47, Assist Government Whip 1931–35, a Lord Commissioner of Treasury 1935–37, HG WW II, memb Parly Delegn to Buchenwald Concentration Camp April 1945, Yr Bro Trin House 1944, Chev Legion Honour Epsom 1928.1 He was educated Brandon House Sch Cheltenham and HMS Britannia.1 He gained the title of 1st Baronet Southby. He was Commander Royal Navy (ret ) WW I, Flag Lieutenant and Flag Lieutenant-Commander Grand Fleet and N America and WI Station 1913–18, memb Allied Naval Armistice Commn 1918–19 and Naval Inter-Allied Commn of Control 1919–20 in 1920.1 He was Justice of the Peace (J.P.) (Surrey and Oxon 1938–46) in 1927.1 He was Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) Surrey in 1933.1 On 12 June 1937 so created.1 He lived in 2003 at 18 Harbour View Rd, Parkstone, Dorset BH14 0PE, ZZZ.1

Phyllis Mary Garton is the daughter of Charles Henry Garton. She married Commander Sir Archibald Richard James Southby, 1st Bt., son of Richard Southby and Hon. Isabella Hewitt Lifford, on 20 July 1909.1 She and Commander Sir Archibald Richard James Southby, 1st Bt. were divorced in 1962. She died on 25 April 1974, aged 87.1
