     Roderick McEwen was born on 12 March 1932. He was the son of Captain Sir John Helias Finnie McEwen, 1st Bt. and Brigid Mary Lindley. He married Romana von Hofmannsthal, daughter of Raimund von Hofmannsthal and Ava Alice Muriel Astor, on 15 April 1958. He died in 1982.2

     Romana von Hofmannsthal was educated at The Brearly School, New York City, New York, U.S.A..1 Her married name became McEwen.

     Raimund von Hofmannsthal was the son of Hugo von Hofmannsthal.1 He married, firstly, Ava Alice Muriel Astor, daughter of Lt.-Col. John Jacob Astor IV and Ava Loel Willing, in 1933.2 He and Ava Alice Muriel Astor were divorced in 1939.2 He married, secondly, Lady Elizabeth Hester Mary Paget, daughter of Sir Charles Henry Alexander Paget, 6th Marquess of Anglesey and Lady Victoria Marjorie Harriet Manners, on 7 June 1939.1 He died on 20 March 1974.1

     Ava Loel Willing is the daughter of Edward Willing.1 She married, firstly, Lt.-Col. John Jacob Astor IV, son of William Backhouse Astor, Jr. and Caroline Webster Schermerhorn, on 17 February 1891.1 She and Lt.-Col. John Jacob Astor IV were divorced in 1910.1 She married, secondly, Thomas Lister, 4th Baron Ribblestone, son of Thomas Lister, 3rd Baron Ribblesdale and Emma Mure, in 1919.1 She died on 9 June 1958.1
     From 17 February 1891, her married name became Astor.1 As a result of her marriage, Ava Loel Willing was styled as Baroness Ribblesdale in 1919. From 1919, her married name became Lister.
