     Barbara Chase was the daughter of Harold Stuart Chase and Gertrude Boyer.1,3 She married George John Charles Mercer Nairne Petty-FitzMaurice, 8th Marquess of Lansdowne, son of Major Lord Charles George Francis Mercer Nairne Petty-FitzMaurice and Lady Violet Mary Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound, on 18 March 1938.1 She died on 17 February 1965.1
      From 18 March 1938, her married name became Mercer Nairne.1 As a result of her marriage, Barbara Chase was styled as Marchioness of Lansdowne on 20 August 1944. From 1947, her married name became Mercer Nairne Petty-FitzMaurice.

      Her married name became Astor. As a result of her marriage, Lady Irene Violet Freesia Janet Augusta Haig was styled as Baroness Astor of Hever on 19 July 1971.
