     Lt.-Gen. John Sutherland, 16th Earl of Sutherland was born on 3 March 1661.1 He was the son of George Gordon, 15th Earl of Sutherland and Jean Wemyss.1 He married, secondly, Catherine Tollemache, daughter of Sir Lionel Tollemache, 3rd Bt. and Elizabeth Murray, Countess of Dysart.2 He married, firstly, Helen Cochrane, daughter of William Cochrane, Lord Cochrane and Lady Catherine Kennedy, on 28 April 1680.1 He married by contract, thirdly, Frances Hodgson, daughter of Sir Thomas Hodgson and Anne Thorold, on 11 August 1727.1 He died on 27 June 1733 at age 72.1
     He was given the name of John Gordon at birth.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in 1687.1 In 1690 his name was legally changed to John Sutherland.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in February 1689/90.1 He gained the rank of Colonel between 1694 and 1697 in the Foot Regiment, Flanders.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in February 1702/3.1 He succeeded as the 16th Earl of Sutherland [S., 1235] on 4 March 1702/3.1 He was a Commissioner for the Union of Scottish and English Parliaments in February 1705/6.1 On 29 March 1706 he obtained a regrant of the Earldom, with special remainder to his son and in default to the heirs female of his son without division and their heirs male.1 He was appointed Representative Peer [Scotland] in 1707/8.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-General in 1715.1 In 1715 he helped suppress the 1715 Uprising.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Caithness, Elgin, Nairn, Ross and Cromarty and Sutherland between 1715 and 1725.1 He was appointed Representative Peer [Scotland] between 1715 and 1733.1 He was appointed Knight, Order of the Thistle (K.T.) in 1716.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in January 1720/21.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.3

     William Sutherland, Lord Strathnaver was born before 19 December 1683.2 He was the son of Lt.-Gen. John Sutherland, 16th Earl of Sutherland and Helen Cochrane.1 He married Catherine Morison, daughter of William Morison, on 4 October 1705.1 He died on 13 July 1720.1
     He gained the rank of Colonel of Foot between 1702 and 1710.1 He gained the title of Lord Strathnaver between 1703 and 1720.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Wick Burghs from 1708 to 1709.1 In 1715 he helped suppress the 1715 Uprising.1

John Sutherland, Lord Strathnaver1

     John Sutherland, Lord Strathnaver was born in November 1706.1 He was the son of William Sutherland, Lord Strathnaver and Catherine Morison.1 He died circa 9 December 1720.1 He was buried on 12 December 1720.1
     He was styled as Lord Strathnaver.1

William Sutherland, 17th Earl of Sutherland1

     William Sutherland, 17th Earl of Sutherland was born on 2 October 1708.1 He was the son of William Sutherland, Lord Strathnaver and Catherine Morison.1 He married Lady Elizabeth Wemyss, daughter of David Wemyss, 4th Earl of Wemyss and Elizabeth St. Clair, on 2 April 1734.1 He died on 7 December 1750 at age 42.1
     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Sutherland between 1727 and 1732.1 He succeeded as the 17th Earl of Sutherland [S., 1235] on 27 June 1733.1 He was appointed Representative Peer [Scotland] between 1734 and 1747.1 In 1745 he opposed teh 1745 Uprising, and barely escaped being taken prisoner when Jacobites occupied Dunrobin.1 He fought in the Battle of Culloden in 1746.1 In 1747 the Hereditary Shrievalty of Sutherland was abolished by Parliament, and he received £1,000 in compensation.1

     Her married name became Sutherland.

     Catherine Morison was the daughter of William Morison.1 She married William Sutherland, Lord Strathnaver, son of Lt.-Gen. John Sutherland, 16th Earl of Sutherland and Helen Cochrane, on 4 October 1705.1 She died on 21 March 1765.1
     Her married name became Sutherland.

     Her married name became Gordon.

     Anna Elizabeth Jaeger was the daughter of C. Jaeger.1 She married, firstly, H. Sladden before 1910.1 She married, secondly, Major Hon. Francis William White, son of Luke White, 2nd Baron Annaly of Annaly and Rathcline and Emily Stuart, on 14 July 1910.1 She died on 20 June 1956.1
     From before 1910, her married name became Sladden.1 From 14 July 1910, her married name became White.1
