     Sir Randal Mac Sorley Mac Donnell, 1st Earl of Antrim was the son of Sorley Boye MacDonnel and Mary O'Neill.1 He married Alice O'Neill, daughter of Hugh O'Neill, 3rd Earl of Tyrone and Joanna O'Donnell, in 1604.1 He died on 10 December 1636 at Dunluce, County Antrim, Ireland.1 He was buried at Bonamargy, Ireland.1
     He raised 500 foot and 40 horse at his own charge, and greatly distinguished himself in the pacification of Ulster.1 He was invested as a Knight on 13 May 1602 by the Lord Deputy Mountjoy, and received a grant from King James I of the Route and the Glyns, co. Antrim, lands which his father had conquored from the Max Quillans.1 He was created 1st Viscount Dunluce, co. Antrim [Ireland] on 28 May 1618.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of County Antrim in 1620.1 He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1620.1 He was created 1st Earl of Antrim [Ireland] on 12 December 1620.1 He lived at Dunluce, County Antrim, Ireland.1

     Catherine Tollemache was the daughter of Sir Lionel Tollemache, 3rd Bt. and Elizabeth Murray, Countess of Dysart.1 She married, secondly, John Gordon, 16th Earl of Sutherland, son of George Gordon, 15th Earl of Sutherland and Jean Wemyss.1 She married, firstly, James Stuart, Lord Doune, son of Alexander Stuart, 5th Earl of Moray and Emilia Balfour, on 2 December 1677.1 She died in 1703.
     Her married name became Gordon.1 Her married name became Stuart.
