     John Maitland, 5th Earl of Lauderdale was born circa 1655.1 He was the son of Charles Maitland, 3rd Earl of Lauderdale and Elizabeth Lauder. He married Lady Margaret Cunningham, daughter of Alexander Cunningham, 10th Earl of Glencairn and Nicola Stewart, circa 1680. He died on 30 August 1710.

     Helen Gordon was the daughter of William Gordon, Lord Strathnaver and Catherine Morison.1 She married Sir James Colquhoun of Luss, 1st Bt., son of Sir James Grant of Grant, 6th Bt. and Anne Colquhoun, on 12 April 1740.1 She died on 7 January 1791.1
     Her married name became Grant.

     Sir James Colquhoun of Luss, 1st Bt. was born on 22 February 1714.1 He was the son of Sir James Grant of Grant, 6th Bt. and Anne Colquhoun.2 He married Helen Gordon, daughter of William Gordon, Lord Strathnaver and Catherine Morison, on 12 April 1740.1 He died on 18 November 1786 at age 72.
     Sir James Colquhoun of Luss, 1st Bt. was baptised with the name of James Grant.1 He succeeded to the Colquhoun estates as heir under the entail of 1706 after considerable litigation with his brother, Sir Ludovic.1 He built the mansion of Rossdhu.1 He was created 1st Baronet Colquhoun, of Luss [Great Britain] on 27 June 1786.1
