Karl Prinz zu Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg was born on 30 September 1813 at Gottorp.2 He was the son of Frederik Wilhelm Paul Leopold Herzog zu Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg and Luise Karoline Prinzessin von Hessen-Kassel.3 He married Wilhelmine Marie Oldenburg, Princess of Denmark, daughter of Frederik VI Oldenburg, King of Denmark and Marie Sophie Friederike Prinzessin von Hessen-Kassel, on 19 May 1838 at Amalienborg Palace, Copenhagen, Denmark.2,4 He died on 24 October 1878 at age 65 at Luisenlund, Holstein, Germany.2
