     James Shand, 1st of Craigellie was born circa 1711. He was the son of James Shand and Helen Leslie.2 He married Jean Russell, daughter of Patrick Russell of Moncoffer and Catherine Campbell, in April 1733.1 He married, secondly, Margaret Calder, daughter of Sir Thomas Calder, 2nd Bt. and Christian Scott, in 1762. He died on 10 December 1795.
     He lived at Craigellie, ScotlandG.1 He held the office of Provost of Banff.

     He held the office of Provost of Banff between 1729 and 1732.1,2
