     Admiral Sir Edward Southwell Sotheby was born on 14 May 1813 at Clifton, Bristol, England.2,3 He was the son of Admiral Thomas Sotheby and Lady Mary Anne Bourke.3 He married Lucy Elizabeth Adeane, daughter of Henry John Adeane and Hon. Matilda Abigail Stanley, on 24 June 1864 at St. George Hanover Square, London, England.1,2 He died on 6 January 1902 at age 88.1
     He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.)1 He was commissioned in 1827, in the service of the Royal Navy.4 He fought in the Indian Mutiny between 1856 and 1857.4 He lived at Menaifron, Dwyran, Anglesey, Wales.5
