     Thomas Wontner was born circa 1696 at Leominster, Herefordshire, EnglandG.1 He was the son of unknown (?)1 He married Ann Owens, daughter of Richard Owens and Johan Whitefoote, before 1715 at Leominster, Herefordshire, EnglandG.1 He died on 8 July 1761 at Leominster, Herefordshire, EnglandG.1 He was buried at Leominster, Herefordshire, EnglandG.1
     He was the proprietor at The Golden Lion Inn, Leominster, Herefordshire, EnglandG.1 Although records of Wontners are to be found up to three hundred years earlier, Thomas is the earliest from whom an unbroken link can be made to modern times.1

Thomas Wontner1

     Thomas Wontner was born on 12 September 1747 at Leominster, Herefordshire, EnglandG.1 He was the son of John Wontner and Rebecca King.1 He married Margaret Lowe, daughter of Edmund Lowe and Elizabeth Ellis, on 6 January 1770 at St. Peter's, Worcester, Worcestershire, EnglandG.1 He died on 10 November 1831 at age 84 at Tibberton Square, Islington, London, EnglandG.1 He was buried at Abney Park Cemetery, Islington, London, EnglandG.1
     He was registered as a Freeman and Liveryman of the City of London in 1771.1 In 1772 he founded the firm of Thomas Wontner & Sons. He was associated with the founding of the British & Foreign Bible Society and the London Missionary Society, and active with William Wilberforce in the abolition of slavery.1 He was Controller of the Countess of Huntingdon's Chapel in the City between 1782 and 1823.1 He was registered as a Master of the Worshipful Company of Feltmakers in 1793.1 He was a Churchwarden in 1795 at St. Botolph's Church, Aldgate, London, EnglandG.1

     From 11 September 1770, her married name became Wontner.1
