Richard Hassell Thursby was born on 22 September 1836 at Ormerod House, Burnley, Lancashire, England.2 He was the son of Reverend William Thursby and Eleanor Mary Hargreaves.2 He married Alice Ann Doncaster, daughter of Richard Doncaster and Harriet Beardoe, on 28 January 1858 at St. Mary Magdalen's Church, St. Leonards-On-Sea, Sussex, England.2 He died on 5 April 1885 at age 48 at The Quay, Instow, Devon, England.2 He was buried at Holmes Chapel, Lancashire, England.2
