     Lt.-Col. John Sutherland Sinclair was born in 1778.3 He was the son of George Sinclair and Elizabeth Sutherland.2 He married, firstly, Marianne Gamble, daughter of John Gamble, on 22 June 1802.3 He married, secondly, Frances Ramsay, daughter of Captain David Ramsay, on 23 January 1817.3 He married, thirdly, Euphemia Buchan, daughter of Thomas Buchan, 13th of Auchmacoy and Euphemia Turner, on 13 October 1824.1 He died on 12 April 1841.1
     Lt.-Col. John Sutherland Sinclair gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the Royal Artillery.1
     He had three other daughters by his second wife.3

     Sir James Augustus Sinclair, 16th Earl of Caithness was born on 31 May 1827.1 He was the son of Lt.-Col. John Sutherland Sinclair and Euphemia Buchan.1 He married Janet Macleod, daughter of Roderick MacLeod and Margaret Gambier MacLeod, on 27 April 1855 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.2 He died on 20 January 1891 at age 63 at 2 Queen's Gardens, Paddington, London, England, from inflammation of the lungs.2 He was buried at St. Mathias, Old Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.2
     At Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, a banker and chartered accountant.3 He succeeded to the title of 16th Earl of Caithness [S., 1455] on 25 May 1889.3 He succeeded to the title of 11th Baronet Sinclair, of Canisbay, co. Caithness [N.S., 1631] on 25 May 1889.4 In January 1890 his claim was recognised by Scottish authorities sufficiently for him to vote at the election of representative peers for Scotland.3

     Janet Macleod was born on 23 September 1829.3 She was the daughter of Roderick MacLeod and Margaret Gambier MacLeod.2,3 She was baptised at St. Anne's Church, Soho, London, England.3 She married Sir James Augustus Sinclair, 16th Earl of Caithness, son of Lt.-Col. John Sutherland Sinclair and Euphemia Buchan, on 27 April 1855 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.3 She died on 5 February 1906 at age 76 at 59 Inverness Terrace, Hyde Park, London, England.3
     From 27 April 1855, her married name became Sinclair.1 As a result of her marriage, Janet Macleod was styled as Countess of Caithness on 25 May 1889.

     Lilian Higford was the daughter of Higford Higford.1 She married Sir Norman Macleod Buchan of Auchmacoy, 18th Earl of Caithness, son of Sir James Augustus Sinclair, 16th Earl of Caithness and Janet Macleod, on 21 December 1893.2 She died on 11 August 1933.1
     From 21 December 1893, her married name became Buchan.1 As a result of her marriage, Lilian Higford was styled as Countess of Caithness on 30 May 1914.

     Olivia Trevor, 17th of Auchmacoy was baptised with the name of Olivia Sinclair.1 On 4 April 1913 her name was legally changed to Olivia Buchan.1 Her name was legally changed to Olivia Trevor.1
