     Colonel John Campbell was born in 1673 at Torblaren, Glenaray, Argyllshire, Scotland.1 He was the son of Reverend Patrick Campbell and Jean McIver Campbell.1 He married Katherine Claiborne, daughter of Colonel unknown Clayborn. He married Elizabeth (?).2 He died on 29 January 1740 at St. Elizabeth, Jamaica.1
     Colonel John Campbell also went by the nick-name of John 'Black River'.1 He emigrated to Jamaica arriving on circa 1700.1
