John Sinclair, 3rd Earl of Caithness was the son of William Sinclair, 2nd Earl of Caithness and Margaret Keith.2 He married Elizabeth Sutherland, daughter of William Sutherland of Duffus and Janet Innes, before 1527.1 He died on 18 May 1529 at Summerdale, Orkney Islands, Scotland, killed in action, along with 500 of his men, in an attempt to recover the Orkney Islands.1
