John Carmichael, 4th Earl of Hyndford was born on 5 May 1710.1 He was the son of Hon. William Carmichael and Helen Craig.1 He married Janet Grant, daughter of William Grant, Lord Prestongrange, on 16 January 1749.1 He died on 21 December 1787 at age 77, without issue.1

Lanark [N.S., 1627] on 19 July 1767.2 He succeeded to the title of 4th Baron Carmichael of Carmichael [S., 1701] on 19 July 1767.1 He succeeded to the title of 4th Earl of Hyndford [S., 1701] on 19 July 1767.1 He succeeded to the title of 4th Viscount Inglisberry and Nemphlar [S., 1701] on 19 July 1767.1
