     Sir Thomas Nicolson of Carnock, 4th Lord Napier of Merchistoun was born on 14 January 1669.1 He was the son of Sir Thomas Nicolson of Carnock, 3rd Bt. and Jean Napier.2 He died on 9 June 1688 at age 19, unmarried.1
     Sir Thomas Nicolson of Carnock, 4th Lord Napier of Merchistoun succeeded to the title of 4th Baronet Nicolson, of Carnock, co. Stirling [N.S., 1637] on 20 January 1670.1 He succeeded to the title of 4th Lord Napier of Merchistoun in 1683.1
     On his death, the Lordship of Napier passed to his maternal aunt Margaret, the Carnock estate passed to his paternal aunts and the baronetcy.1
