Rear-Admiral Stair Douglas was born on 27 October 1764. He was the son of Charles James Sholto Douglas and Basilia Dawes. He married Anne Payne, daughter of John Payne, on 24 July 1802. He died on 22 November 1826 at age 62.
He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral of the Blue in the service of the Royal Navy.
