     Edward Clerk was born on 24 June 1824.1 He was the son of Rt. Hon. Sir George Clerk of Penicuik, 6th Bt. and Maria Anne Law.2 He married Alice Bramston, daughter of T. W. Bramston, on 28 April 1864.1 He died on 1 May 1917 at age 92.1
     Edward Clerk gained the rank of Major in the service of the 4th Madras Cavalry.1

     William Robert Clerk usually went by his middle name of Robert.1
