Washington Sewallis Shirley, 9th Earl Ferrers was born on 3 January 1822.1 He was the son of Robert William Shirley, Viscount Tamworth and Anne Weston.1,2 He married Lady Augusta Annabella Chichester, daughter of Edward Chichester, 4th Marquess of Donegall and Amelia Spread Deane Grady, on 23 July 1844.1 He died on 13 March 1859 at age 37.1
He succeeded to the title of 15th Baronet Shirley, of Staunton Harold [E., 1611] on 2 October 1842.1 He succeeded to the title of 9th Earl Ferrers [G.B., 1711] on 2 October 1842.1 He succeeded to the title of 9th Viscount Tamworth, of co. Stafford [G.B., 1711] on 2 October 1842.1
