Hew Moncreiffe was the son of Sir William Moncreiffe and Jean Oliphant.2 He married, firstly, Helen Dundas of Fingask.1 He married, secondly, Agnes Dischington, daughter of Thomas Dischington of Ardross.3 He died after 6 November 1635.1
In 1600 he was wounded trying to save his host in the Gowrie House Affair.1 He was later pardoned by King James VI personally.1 He lived at the Cotes of Elcho, Scotland.1
