     William Hampton was born in 1838 at Drumard, Kilmore, County Armagh, Ireland.2,3 He was the son of Benjamin Hampton and Alice Lechie.1 He married Mary Theresa Lechie.1 He married Martha Hampton, daughter of David Hampton and Elizabeth Hampton, in December 1876 at The Manse, Sydenham, Christchurch, New Zealand.4,2 He died on 7 September 1912.5 He was buried at Ashburton Cemetery - Old Section, Ashburton, New Zealand, plot 216.5
     William immigrated to Lyttelton, Canterbury, New Zealand on the ship Blue Jacket, arriving on 3 August 1867.2 He was a farmer after 1876 at Lauriston, Canterbury, New Zealand.2
