William Cansfield Gerard, 2nd Baron Gerard of Bryn was born on 1 June 1851.1 He was the son of Robert Tolver Gerard, 1st Baron Gerard of Bryn and Harriet Clifton.2 He married Mary Emmeline Laura Milner, daughter of Henry Beilby William Milner and Charlotte Henrietta Beresford, on 7 August 1877.1 He died on 30 July 1902 at age 51.1
He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the service of the 2nd Life Guards.1 He succeeded to the title of 14th Baronet Gerard, of Bryn, co. Palatine of Lancaster [E., 1611] on 15 March 1887.1 He succeeded to the title of 2nd Baron Gerard of Bryn, co. Palatine of Lancaster [U.K., 1876] on 15 March 1887.1 He was decorated with the award of the Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.).1 He gained the rank of Honorary Colonel in the service of the Lancashire Hussars.1
