Arthur Craigie Oliphant was born on 20 February 1840.1 He was the son of Lt.-Col. James Oliphant and Sophia Ann Trewman.2 He married, firstly, Fanny Ross, daughter of Malcolm Ross.1 He married, secondly, Agnes Mary Horton, daughter of Rear-Admiral William Horton, on 22 February 1876.1 He died on 2 July 1920 at age 80.1
