He married Eliza Maria Gordon-Cumming, daughter of Lt.-Col. Sir Alexander Penrose Gordon-Cumming, 3rd Bt. and Anne Pitcairn Campbell, on 5 August 1869. He died on 28 May 1922 at age 77 at Birdsall House, Birdsall, Yorkshire, England.
