Digby Wentworth Bayard Willoughby, 9th Baron Middleton was born on 24 August 1844 at Thorpe Hall. He was the son of Henry Willoughby, 8th Baron Middleton and Julia Louisa Bosville. He married Eliza Maria Gordon-Cumming, daughter of Lt.-Col. Sir Alexander Penrose Gordon-Cumming of Altyre, 3rd Bt. and Anne Pitcairn Campbell, on 5 August 1869.1 He died on 28 May 1922 at age 77 at Birdsall House, Birdsall, Yorkshire, England.
