Leonard Lyell, 1st Baron Lyell was born on 21 October 1850.1 He was the son of Henry Lyell and Katherine Murray Horner.2 He married Mary Stirling, daughter of Reverend John Mayne Stirling and Rosetta Cheyne, on 4 July 1874.1 He died on 18 September 1926 at age 75.
He was County Forfar.1 He lived Kinnordy.1 He graduated with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) (London).1 He was Justice of the Peace (J.P.) and Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.).1 He was also known as 1st Baronet [U.K. Life Peer].1 He gained the title of 1st Baron Lyell. He was Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Lib) Orkney and Shetland in 1885.1 On 24 January 1894 so created and 4 July 1914 respectively (both UK).1
