     Elizabeth Carlyle, Lady Carlyle of Torthorwald was the daughter of William Carlyle, Master of Carlyle and Janet Johnstone.1 She married, firstly, Sir James Douglas of Parkhead before 11 August 1587.1 She married, secondly, William Sinclair between 1613 and March 1615.1 She died after 8 May 1642.1
     She succeeded as the 5th Lady Carlyle of Torthorwald [S., 1474] in June 1575.1 From before 11 August 1587, her married name became Douglas.1 From between 1613 and March 1615, her married name became Sinclair.1 In June 1624 she was under arrest, probably for debt.1

     William Carlyle, Master of Carlyle was the son of Michael Carlyle, 4th Lord Carlyle of Torthorwald.1 He married Janet Johnstone, daughter of James Johnstone of Johnstone, younger and Margaret Hamilton, circa 1 August 1551.1 He died in 1572, without male issue.1
     He was styled as Master of Carlyle.1

     Mary Cotton was the daughter of Sir John Cotton, 6th Bt. and Jane Burdett.1,2 She married Basil Feilding, 6th Earl of Denbigh, son of William Feilding, 5th Earl of Denbigh and Isabella Haeck de Jong, on 12 April 1757.1 She died on 14 October 1782.1
     After her marriage, Mary Cotton was styled as Countess of Denbigh and Desmond on 12 April 1757. From 12 April 1757, her married name became Feilding.

     John Johnstone of Johnstone was born in 1507.1 He was the son of James Johnstone of Johnstone and Mary Maxwell.1 He married, firstly, Elizabeth Jardine. He married, secondly, Nicola Douglas, daughter of Sir James Douglas, 7th of Drumlanrig and Margaret Douglas.1 He died on 8 November 1567.1
     Between 1542 and 1550 he had various charters of lands.1 He fought in the Battle of Pinkie on 10 September 1547.1 He was Commissioner to settle the border disputes in 1552.1 He lived at Johnstone, ScotlandG.1
