     Janet Johnstone was the daughter of James Johnstone of Johnstone, younger and Margaret Hamilton.1,2 She married, firstly, William Carlyle, Master of Carlyle, son of Michael Carlyle, 4th Lord Carlyle of Torthorwald, circa 1 August 1551.1 She married, secondly, Alexander Abernethy, 6th Lord Saltoun of Abernethy, son of William Abernethy, 5th Lord Saltoun of Abernethy and Lady Elizabeth Hay, circa 1572.2 She married, thirdly, William Kerr, son of Mark Kerr and Lady Helen Leslie, between 1587 and 1589.1 She died in 1608.1
     She was also known as Jean Johnstone.3 From circa 1 August 1551, her married name became Carlyle.1 From 1572, her married name became Abernethy.2 From between 1587 and 1589, her married name became Kerr.2

Sir James Douglas of Parkhead1

     Sir James Douglas of Parkhead married Elizabeth Carlyle, Lady Carlyle of Torthorwald, daughter of William Carlyle, Master of Carlyle and Janet Johnstone, before 11 August 1587.1 He died on 14 July 1608 at High Street, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG, assassinated by Captain William Stewart, nephew of the Earl of Arran.1
     In 1596 he killed James Stewart, Earl of Arran.1 He was styled as Lord Torthorwald in 1605/6.1
