     Dunbar Douglas, 4th Earl of Selkirk was born on 1 December 1722.¹ He was the son of Basil Hamilton and Isabella Mackenzie.¹ He married Helen Hamilton, daughter of Hon. John Hamilton and Margaret Home, on 3 December 1758.¹ He died on 26 March 1799 at age 76 at George Street, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.¹ He was buried on 31 May 1799 at Holyrood Abbey, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.¹
     Dunbar Douglas, 4th Earl of Selkirk was baptised with the name of Dunbar Hamilton.¹ He was educated at University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.¹ On 3 December 1744 his name was legally changed to Dunbar Douglas.¹ He succeeded to the title of 4th Lord Daer and Shortcleuch [S., 1646] on 3 December 1744.¹ He succeeded to the title of 4th Earl of Selkirk [S., 1646] on 3 December 1744.¹ In 1745 he supported the Government during the Jacobite rising.¹ He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Civil Laws (D.C.L.) by University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, in 1745.¹ He held the office of Lord Rector of the University of Glasgow between 1766 and 1768.¹ He held the office of Representative Peer [Scotland] between 1787 and 1799.¹ He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright.¹

     Isabella Mackenzie was the daughter of Colonel Hon. Alexander Mackenzie and Elizabeth Paterson.^1,2 She married Basil Hamilton, son of Hon. Basil Hamilton and Mary Dunbar, on 14 March 1719.³ She died on 6 April 1725.¹
     From 14 March 1719, her married name became Hamilton.

     Colonel Hon. Alexander Mackenzie is the son of Sir Kenneth Mackenzie, 4th Earl of Seaforth and Lady Frances Herbert.^1,2 He married Elizabeth Paterson, daughter of John Paterson.²

     Sir Kenneth Mackenzie, 4th Earl of Seaforth was baptised on 8 December 1661.² He was the son of Kenneth Mackenzie, 3rd Earl of Seaforth and Isabel Mackenzie.² He married Lady Frances Herbert, daughter of William Herbert, 1st Marquess of Powis and Lady Elizabeth Somerset.² He died in January 1700/1 at age 39.²
     Sir Kenneth Mackenzie, 4th Earl of Seaforth succeeded to the title of 5th Lord Mackenzie of Kintail [S., 1609] in December 1678.² He succeeded to the title of 4th Earl of Seaforth [S., 1623] in December 1678.² He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in 1686.² He was invested as a Knight, Order of the Thistle (K.T.) in 1687.² He was created 1st Baron Fortrose by King James II in exile circa 1690.² He was created 1st Marquess of Seaforth by King James II in exile circa 1690.² He was created 1st Earl of Fortrose by King James II in exile circa 1690.² He was created 1st Viscount Fortrose by King James II in exile circa 1690.² In 1690 he attempted a Jacobite uprising in the North of Scotland, was captured and imprisoned in Edinburgh and Inverness Castles until March 1606/7.² He accompanied King James II to France and Ireland, and assisted in the siege of Londondery.²

     Hon. Basil Hamilton was born circa December 1671.¹ He was the son of Sir William Douglas-Hamilton, 1st Earl of Selkirk and Anne Hamilton, 3rd Duchess of Hamilton.¹ He was baptised on 16 December 1671.² He married Mary Dunbar, daughter of David Dunbar of Baldoon and Lady Eleanor Montgomerie, in 1691.² He died on 27 August 1701 at Minnick Water, Galloway, drowned in the ford, while trying to save his servant, who had tried the ford and was swept away.¹

     Mary Dunbar is the daughter of David Dunbar of Baldoon and Lady Eleanor Montgomerie.¹ She was born in 1677. She married Hon. Basil Hamilton, son of Sir William Douglas-Hamilton, 1st Earl of Selkirk and Anne Hamilton, 3rd Duchess of Hamilton, in 1691.² She died on 15 May 1760.

     David Dunbar of Baldoon was the son of Sir David Dunbar, Bt..¹ He married, secondly, Lady Eleanor Montgomerie, daughter of Hugh Montgomerie, 7th Earl of Eglinton and Lady Mary Leslie, in 1674.² He died on 20 March 1682.¹

     Sir David Dunbar, Bt. was born after 1609. He married an unknown person in May 1641. He died on 12 December 1686.
     Sir David Dunbar, Bt. gained the title of Baronet Dunbar, of Baldoon.¹

     Helen Hamilton was born circa 1738.¹ She was the daughter of Hon. John Hamilton and Margaret Home.¹ She married Dunbar Douglas, 4th Earl of Selkirk, son of Basil Hamilton and Isabella Mackenzie, on 3 December 1758.¹ She died on 28 November 1802.¹ She was buried on 1 December 1802 at Bath Abbey, Bath, Somerset, England.¹
     From 3 December 1758, her married name became Douglas.

     Mary Hamilton was the daughter of Hon. John Hamilton and Margaret Home.¹ She married Sir John Halkett of Pitfirrane, 4th Bt. in 1764.¹ She died on 3 December 1803.¹
