He died on 13 January 1571 at age 55.

He was the son of Heinrich I Herzog von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel and Katherine von Pommern-Wolgast.1 He married, firstly, Marie von Württemberg, daughter of Heinrich Herzog von Württemberg and Eva von Ober-Salm, on 1 January 1515 at Wolfenbüttel, Niedersachsen, Germany. He married, secondly, Sophia of Poland, daughter of Sigismund I, King of Poland and Bonna Sforza, on 22 February 1556. He died on 11 June 1568 at age 78 at Wolfenbüttel, Niedersachsen, Germany.
     Heinrich II Herzog von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel also went by the nick-name of Heinrich 'the Younger'.1 He was a member of the House of Guelph.1 He succeeded to the title of Herzog von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel in 1514.1
