Frederick William Stanley was born on 27 May 1878.1 He was the son of Frederick Arthur Stanley, 16th Earl of Derby and Lady Constance Villiers.1 He married Lady Alexandra Louise Elizabeth Acheson, daughter of Archibald Brabazon Sparrow Acheson, 4th Earl of Gosford and Lady Louisa Augusta Beatrice Montagu, on 17 June 1905.1 He died on 9 August 1942 at age 64.1
Lt.-Col. Hon. Frederick William Stanley gained the rank of Captain in the service of the 10th Hussars.1 He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1902, where he was severely wounded.1 He gained the rank of Captain and Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the Lancashire Hussar Yeomanry.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was decorated with the award of Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1917.1
