     Lt.-Gen. Francis Grant was born circa 1718.2 He was the son of Sir James Grant of Grant, 6th Bt. and Anne Colquhoun.1 He married Catherine Sophia Cox, daughter of Joseph Cox and Katharine Sophia Herbert, on 17 March 1763.2 He died on 29 December 1781.2
     Lt.-Gen. Francis Grant fought in the Battle of Ticonderoga.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the 42nd Highlanders (Black Watch).2 He lived at Dumphail, Scotland.1

     Sir James Grant of Grant, 8th Bt. was born on 19 May 1738.2 He was the son of Sir Ludovick Grant of Grant, 7th Bt..1 He married Jean Duff, daughter of Alexander Duff and Lady Anne Duff, on 4 January 1763 at Bath, Somerset, England.2 He died on 18 February 1811 at age 72.2
     Sir James Grant of Grant, 8th Bt. also went by the nick-name of 'The Good Sir James'.1 He succeeded to the title of 8th Baronet Colquhoun, of Luss [N.S., 1625] in 1775.3
     He had four other sons and five unmarried daughters.1
